Message From the Directors
It is with great pleasure that we announce the launch of a new undergraduate program in Environmental Engineering at the University of British Columbia. This program has been many years in the planning and is the result of close collaboration between the Departments of Civil Engineering (CIVL) and Chemical and Biological Engineering (CHBE). Not only are both departments leaders in education and research in Canada, but they consistently rank among the top departments worldwide in their respective fields.
The new four-year program is delivered solely at the Vancouver campus of the University of British Columbia and complements the existing joint program with the University of Northern British Columbia. The new program consists of existing courses in environmental engineering from CHBE and CIVL and other UBC departments, as well as six new courses developed specifically for this new program including Environmental Engineering Science, and Environmental Engineering and Sustainability. Over 20 faculty of international renown with expertise covering all aspects of environmental engineering will be involved in the delivery of the program.
We are excited at the prospect of helping young and enthusiastic individuals prepare for a career in environmental engineering and to face and help solve many of the most pressing issues facing humankind in the 21st century, including: the provision of a safe and potable water supply; the design and management of processes to minimize or eliminate pollution, promote sustainability and protect human and ecosystem health; and overcoming and eliminating the challenges posed by climate change.
